At Tarawera Lagoon Cottage web site, we want you to understand fully what information we collect from you and why. There are 3 ways in which information stored either directly entered by you or by hosting visit log systems and they are as follows:

Newsletter Membership

We have built a newsletter system with which we use to infrom you periodically about local events, seasonal and tariff information etc. This is not a mandatory membership when you make a booking enquiry, rather you can opt-in or out at any time. To join the newsletter club we request the following information:

  1. Your first and last name
  2. Your Email address
  3. A nominated password, which we store encrypted in our web site database system (apart from older members, joined prior to 01 November 2003)
  4. The country in which you reside, which is asked purely for our information in terms of what part of the world out visitors are comming from

This information is retained if you choose to opt-out of the newsletter system at any time due to the fact that you may have made a booking enquiry and we need enquirer details for efficient use of our system. This information is NOT given to any third party and will not be sold to any mailing list companies at all. We consider the information to be sacred and respected. What happens if you opt-out of our newsletter system is that a "flag" is put against your record in our database that our newsletter system sees and hence, will not send you a newsletter at newsletter time. If and when you choose to opt-in to the newsletter again, the flag against your record is updated to "member" status.

Booking Enquiries

If you make a booking enquiry on Tarawera Lagoon Cottage Web Site, the following information is collected as directly entered by you in our booking enquiry process:

  1. Your first and last name
  2. Your email address
  3. A nominated password, which we store encrypted in our web site database system (apart from older members, joined prior to 01 November 2003)
  4. The country in which you reside, which is asked purely for our information in terms of what part of the world out visitors are comming from
  5. Your home phone number
  6. Your work phone number
  7. The prefered arrival date at accommodation
  8. The prefered departure date at accommodation
  9. The number of people you would like to have stay
  10. Any other commments as entered in our comments field

If you have already subscribed to our newsletter club, the first 4 items will already be on record, in which case the rest of the infromation is added to and against the same record. These items are not stored in duplicate in the same table or seperate tables in our database system. The booking details (items 7-10) are stored against your personal details in a seperate table in our database system, allowing efficient storage of your booking enquirie(s) in the event you make more than one enquiry over time via our website. This means there can be multiple enquiries, where your personal information is stored only once.

Hosting Logs

Finally, the last information stored about your visit is via standard visit logging as provided by Tarawera Lagoon Cottages web hosting service. This software stores information on every visit to our website such as the following:

  1. The type of operating system you have on your computer
  2. The version and type of web browser you are using
  3. The pages you visit while at our web site
  4. The length of time you stay on each page
  5. The country your are visiting from
  6. The IP address assigned to your computer while on the current web browsing session

Note: for members joined prior to 01 Nov 2003, your password is not stored in an encrypted format. You can rectify this very easily by going to our change password page and entering your current password in there and use your current password to fill the new password fields. This will effectively keep your pasword the same but it will now be stored in encrypted format in our members database.

The Tarawera Lagoon Cottage web site database system does NOT share any of the information you impart to us via newsletter membership and/or booking enquiries with the hosting visit logs.
